Privacy Policy

Last updated: 29 April 2019
• Since 30 May 2018: Changed my contact information, in particular my email address.

I, Tatum Cooper, am a User of Squarespace's Services. This site ("TATUM") was created using Squarespace's Services. Using Squarespace's Services, I can collect personal information ("Personal Data") from my visitors ("End Users"), making Squarespace my Data Processor. By making use of TATUM, you agree to this Privacy Policy and my Cookie Policy

1. Personal Data I collect

1.1. End Users If you are an End User of TATUM, I can review, with the help of cookies and other similar technologies placed by Squarespace:

  • Pages you have visited

  • The time at which you visited

  • What device you've used to visit

  • What browser you've used to visit

  • Whether you've come here directly or via an alternate link on social media, such as Instagram

  • What area in the world you're visiting from

  • IP-address

1.2. Subscribers If you are a consented subscriber to my mailing list ("Subscriber"), I collect:

  • Your e-mail address

  • The date and time of your subscription

  • And your consent (which you gave by Subscribing after having had the opportunity to read this Privacy Policy and the Cookie Policy).

Apart from the latter three, I do not collect any data from Subscribers (except when they visit TATUM as End Users).

2. What I use your personal data for

As a client ("User") at Squarespace Ireland Limited, I can either enable gathering your information or disable it. I have enabled it as some of these analytics can help me review my audience, which can in turn help me connect with the correct target group in the future.

For example:

Regarding End Users,

  • If I can see that the time multiple End Users have visited an article was right before they decided to click through to another, I can assume the article wasn't a success. With that information I could decide to ask End Users for feedback (What made you leave? Was it the content or the lack of a relatable photo? etc.). Using their feedback I would know what to do different next time. I could also decide to not publish anything similar ever again all together.

  • If I see that one article is very often looked at and End Users stay for a longer time, I could assume it's successful and End Users like reading that sort of articles. I could ask for confirmation to that assumption and possible insights, or I could take the assumption as it is and gather that I ought to write more articles like it to keep my audience happy.

  • Comparing both of the above examples, I could even make conclusions without having to ask for feedback (Which article is more successful and how do they differ?).

  • When I gather that most of my End Users visit via their phone (as opposed to a desktop) then I could decide to spend more time making the website accessible for phone use.

  • In case I want to write a new bio on my personal Instagram account, and I'm doubtful about removing the link to my website, I can review within the personal information Squarespace has provided whether there are End Users visiting through that link. When most, half or even some of my End Users visit via Instagram, I can assume that removing that link and thus accessibility to my website will decrease End Users' visits. That is obviously not ideal.

  • If I were to see that most my End Users are from Scandinavia, I could possibly offer them specific deals (promotion) which are limited to their countries, or I could ask to meet a few of them (for fun, to connect and listen to their opinions and ideas) when I'm back there on travels.

  • If I get 50 page views in a day, but I'm not sure about the scope of that audience (when evaluating the performance of my website), I can review IP-addresses to see whether the 50 page views came from 50 different people or mostly from one person, or somewhere in between.

Regarding Subscribers,

  • If I want to share developments I have made relating to my business (ideas), or if I want to send you a newsletter or an update on, for example, the Cookie Policy, then I will need to email you.

  • I need your consent to send you the emails described above.

All these examples are in the light of promoting my website and possible future business, staying as much in touch as I can with my End Users, understanding my End Users, and making my website and other services more accessible to them.

3. How I collect your personal data

I collect your personal data in the following ways:

  • Through the use of Cookies and other similar technologies

  • When you subscribe with your email address

  • When you contact me in any other way (social media, email, or other)

4. Who I share your personal data with

I do not willingly share your data with any third parties except Squarespace Ireland Limited. Squarespace collects your personal data for me and can therefore acces it. Squarespace uses analysis of Users' and End Users' use of their Services, and analysis of Users' and End Users' personal data in anonymized, pseudonymized, de-personalised and/or aggregated form, which does not focus on you individually, for the purpose of evaluating, providing, protecting and improving their Services. If you wish to learn more about the purposes third parties have for using your personal data, you must read their (in this case Squarespace's) Privacy Policy.

5. How I protect your personal data

5.1. End Users Your personal data is stored within Squarespace's Services but they do not warranty that any breach of their Terms of Agreement on a User's behalf is their responsibility. If I violate Squarespace's agreement and as a consequence lose your personal data, that is my responsibility.

However, taking the previous statement into account, if you agree to this Privacy Policy and my Cookie Policy, and thus you continue to use TATUM, you agree that you share your data with me at your own risk. In an effort to comfort you, I do promise I will not voluntarily share your personal data with any other party without your abstract consent, except Squarespace's existing acces and except if applicable by law. If I were to do so anyway, and with that violate this Privacy Policy, that is my responsibility.

5.2. Subscribers I store personal data relating to Subscribers in a personal place. Though possibly insignificant, I would like to remind you that you have Subscribed through Squarespace's Services and I will therefore not rule out the option of them saving personal data related to your subscription. This is not an attempt to scare you; I trust Squarespace and I am aware of their Privacy Policy as well as their Terms of Service, Cookie Policy and others. "Squarespace is committed to treating personal information received from the European Economic Area and Switzerland pursuant to the Privacy Shield Frameworks in accordance with the applicable Principles." This quote is taken from their Privacy Policy (Effective Date: 14 May 2018) in which you can find a link to their certificate to support and prove the previous statement. Then again, if you agree to this Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy, and thus continue to use TATUM, you agree that you share your data with me at your own risk. In an effort to comfort you, I do promise I will not voluntarily share your personal data with any other party without your consent, except Squarespace's existing acces and except if applicable by law. If I were to do so anyway, and with that violate this Privacy Policy, that is my responsibility.

5.3. Updates I cannot guarantee the safety of your personal data, but I promise you that I will do nothing to violate your safety purposely. I will keep your personal data to myself and I will only use your data for the purposes explained in section 2. If I ever do decide to use End Users' data for other purposes or if I ever do decide to share you personal data with third parties other than Squarespace, it will be updated within this Privacy Policy. If I ever decide to use Subscribers' data for other purposes or if I ever do decide to share your personal data with third parties other than Squarespace, it will be updated within this Privacy Policy and Subscribers will be notified via email.

5.4. HTTPS encryption Moreover, Squarespace has provided HTTPS encryption for their Users' sites. When you find yourself on TATUM and you can see a lock icon pictured next to the link at the top of your screen, that means you are on a securer version of the site; your data will be transmitted more carefully to prevent unauthorized parties from eavesdropping.

6. Additional

6.1. Age and Policy grammar When you continue to make use of TATUM and/or when you become a Subscriber, you agree with both this Privacy Policy as well as the Cookie Policy, and you confirm that you are 16 years of age or older. Under 16's must have a legal guardian's consent to have their personal data processed. In addition, you will not hold any spelling or grammar mistakes within this Privacy Policy and the Cookie Policy against me.

6.2. Disagree If you do not agree with the data I collect, the purposes I collect it for, the parties I share your data with, how I store your data or anything else brought forward in this Privacy Policy, then you can do two things. If you want to keep making use of TATUM, you can choose not to accept the cookies; in that case at least part of your personal data will not be collected, however, it might be possible that the website won't work as well as it would otherwise. The second option, or when you don't agree with the first, would be to stop making use of TATUM all together.

6.3. Unsubscribe, delete data or transfer data When you have consented at first, but no longer want to receive emails, you can unsubscribe in ways described in previously received email(s). If you want your data relating to your subscription to be deleted (in addition to unsubscribing) or transferred in any way, please contact me and make a request stating the latter via tatumnewperspective@gmail.com. If you want your data as an End User to be deleted or transferred in any way, please make a request via tatumnewperspective@gmail.com. Make sure to explain in detail what your request is and why. In regard to deleting or transferring End Users' personal data, I will do everything I can in my power to do so through Squarespace, but I cannot guarantee you my success.

6.4. Complaints In case you would like to report a complaint, I am happy to listen as long as you send it with respect to tatumnewperspective@gmail.com. You are welcome to send a complaint straight to the local authority, but I would appreciate it if you came to me first so we can find a way to solve the problem together.

6.5. Cookies If you want to know more about cookies, read my Cookie Policy.

I am doing everything in my power to comply with the General Data Protection Regulation, and by continuing to make use of TATUM, you acknowledge that and promise to comply with EU Data Protection Laws on your behalf. Also, you agree that I am not responsible for events beyond my control leading to a breach of this Privacy Policy and the Cookie Policy.

Changes might be made to this Privacy Policy, and therefore I advise you to visit this page from time to time.
